Question:
Hi, I am in the UK and have tried to phone my cousins mobile phone without success. He is in Melbourne and I have tried prefixing the number with the international prefix for Australia but receive a message that the number is invalid. Can you give me some advice on what I could be doing wrong (assuming the number is not incorrect) I am not going to put the correct number here, but this number below which is fictional is the same format and a similar number 0411 015493 thanks Rob
Response:
Be sure to drop the first zero of his mobile phone number. So you would dial 61-411-xxx-xxx – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I am in the UK and have tried to phone my cousins mobile phone without = >success. When dialling an Australian number from overseas remove the first 0 so sydney becomes 2 not 02 Melbourne becomes 3 not 03 Mobliles become 4 not 04 I had the reverse happen with a friend who had my mobile number as from Brasil but was unable to contact me from here in Australia Enjoy your chat Mark

try dropping the ‘0′ off any numbers you try, when we were in South Africa last year, we had a similar problem phoning home, it turned out that all we had to do was drop off the 0 in our local area code. ie. from +61 03 123 4567 we used +61 3 123 4567. See if this has the desired effect. MC Hi, I am in the UK and have tried to phone my cousins mobile phone without success. Hi this is correct. greetings walter ps in a mobile phone the + is always good for the international acces code, and the network in your country is smart anough to recognise the number you just dialed as an international or as a national number. try dropping the ‘0′ off any numbers you try, when we were in South Africa last year, we had a similar problem phoning home, it turned out that all we had to do was drop off the 0 in our local area code. ie. from +61 03 123 4567 we used +61 3 123 4567. HI like in my previous posting make all your numbers + ( country code) and then 1234758n and leave the zero at home so you can call from all over the world the number you want Walter

That’s right – where the area code starts with 0, when dialling from overseas it’s pretty much standard to drop the 0. From memory there are some exceptions in Italy, but as a general rule, it works… Daniel — Daniel Bowen, Melbourne, Australia Visiting Australia FAQ http://www.custard.net.au/australia/
